Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The Legislative Assembly Members’ Facilitation Committee met the Chief Minister on Tuesday and submitted an eight-point memorandum on their problems and demands. Notable among the demands was an increase in the salary and medical bill limits of both former and current legislators.

Led by committee chairman MLA Nagendra Singh (Gudh), the members discussed matters related to the legislators. Talking to Free Press, Singh said former MLAs are facing financial problems as their pension is way less than that of ex-legislators in other states. The MLAs are also not getting proper financial assistance in dealing with medical expenses.

“The other problem is related to the protocol. While on tour, MLAs do not get rooms in the Circuit House, although they are above the category of the Chief Secretary,” he said.

He added that the other points covered in the discussion were interest subsidy on loan for purchase of vehicle and residence for members, which is pending since the last two terms, providing additional clerical facilities in the area, giving priority to the MLAs as per the government protocol, and arranging a building for office as per the requirement at the headquarters.

He added that the CM has asked the finance department to prepare a report on the committee’s demands. The CM has also assured the members that their problems will be solved.
