Gwalior (Madhya Pradesh): Gwalior's Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia Airport has been reopened for general passengers on Saturday—after remaining shut for 3 days. The first flight arrived from Delhi at 12noon.

Other flights from Mumbai and Bangalore are also being operated. This airport was closed for passenger flights after "Operation Sindoor" on the intervening night of 6-7 May. However, tight security has been put in place around the airport. Only passengers with tickets can reach the airport.

India had launched "Operation Sindoor" after the Pahalgam terrorist attack in Kashmir. Since then, there have been attacks and counterattacks by India and Pakistan. To ensure safety, several airports were shut across India.

Since there is an air base of Indian Air Force in Gwalior, the airport remained shut from May 7 to 9. In view of which all flights of Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia Airport were canceled during these three days. The Civil Aviation Ministry had decided that all civilian and commercial flights will not be operated from Gwalior Airport till May 9.

This decision was taken due to high alert at Maharajpura Air Force Station. The airport uses the runway of the Indian Air Force's Maharajpura Airbase for flight operations. The airbase serves as a major hub for fighter aircraft.

Strict checking on the roads

After three days, operations have started at Gwalior airport, but strict checking is being done on the roads leading to the airport. Police is checking from a distance of one kilometer. Only passengers are allowed to enter and exit the airport.

Flights will be operated from here now

Currently, direct flights are running from Gwalior airport to Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore. Flight operations have started for these three cities. After three days, the first flight will arrive in Gwalior from New Delhi at 12 noon.
