Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Around 100s of city dog lovers on Thursday voiced strong opposition and carried out a peaceful demonstration at Shahpura Park against the recent Supreme Court order directing that stray dogs in Delhi and NCR be sent to shelter homes.
Protesters, from various professions and age groups, held placards claiming the order was one-sided and impractical, alleging that the rising stray dog population was due to municipal negligence.
Ishita Gondli city representative of Animal Welfare Board of India told Free Press that as per central government rules, sterilized and vaccinated stray dogs must be returned to their original locations, but this order is meant to put the dogs in a jail which they are calling it as a shelter home.
“We are opposing the courts order as it should not be implanted in Bhopal or in any other city”, said another dog lover Rimsha Farooqui.
