Centre To Buy Moong, Urad In Madhya Pradesh After Farmers’ Protest; Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan Holds High-Level Meet

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan convened a high-level meeting and allowed the purchase of Moong and Urad in Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday.
He held a video conference meeting with Madhya Pradesh Agriculture Minister and officers to discuss the issue.
Over 1.23 lakh metric tonnes of Urad would be purchased at the cost of Rs 911.83 crores.
Likewise, over 3.51 lakh metric tonnes of Moong will be procured.
Shivraj directed to maintain transparency in the purchase of Moong and Urad. He said that it is the effort that the purchase of Moong and Urad should be done honestly.
Notably, farmers had raised their cudgels against the state government when they came to know that summer Moong and Urad would not be purchased due to the presence of chemicals in them.

They had threatened to launch a national-level agitation. Bharatiya Kisan Sangh had met CM Mohan Yadav and requested him to provide a bit of support by procuring the summer Moong and Urad.
Later, the CM had written a letter to the Centre with the request that summer Moong and Urad should be procured to provide a bit of help to farmers.
