Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) intensified its anti-encroachment drive on Friday, removing illegal structures, roadside vendors across multiple areas of the city and also demolished an over 80-year-old dilapidated building.
Under BMC Commissioner Harendra Narayan’s directives, action was carried out in areas including Karond Housing Board, Ashoka Garden, Ayodhya Nagar, Chuna Bhatti, Bharatmata Square, TT Nagar Gurudwara, Smart City zones, and Link Roads 1, 2, and 3.
Acting on complaints received via CM Helpline and call centres, the anti-encroachment team seized over one truckload of materials, including handcarts, kiosks, and illegally placed shop items.
In Zone 2, the team assisted in demolishing a dangerous and dilapidated building in Jumerati Janakpuri, built in 1945. Similar actions are being taken against other unsafe structures in the city.
In a coordinated operation, two-wheelers and four-wheelers parked illegally in Lal Parade and Jahangirabad areas were seized in cooperation with traffic police. A total of 25 two-wheelers and 20 four-wheelers were removed. From these areas, illegal sheds, boards, and encroachments on footpaths and public roads were cleared.
Seized items included 4 handcarts, an electric scale, 2 platforms, 3 cages, 2 stands, 20 crates, 2 wooden planks, and a paan kiosk. BMC officials, along with city police, also cleared encroachments from the Karond Fruit Mandi premises.
