Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The two-day Sarus Festival ended with Sarus Walk on the banks of Bhoj Wetland in the city on Sunday. The participants were thrilled to see a sarus crane family and they also got an opportunity to understand the habitat and behaviour of the sarus cranes. Nearly 40 participants took part in the walk.
Regional Museum of Natural History (RMNH), Bhopal Birds Conservation Society and VNS Nature Saviour had organised the festival for the first time to raise awareness about sarus conservation.
A documentary on sarus crane was screened, which disseminated the message of positive relationship between villagers and sarus cranes, the ecological significance of the species, and the threats currently looming over them.

It was followed by a presentation by Sangeeta Rajgir from Bhopal Birds Conservation Society about the role of sarus cranes in an ecosystem, their behaviour, the challenges of conservation and their current status.
Sarus Mitra award ceremony for commendable contribution to sarus conservation and prize distribution function of painting competition were held.
