Bhopal: Rotary Removal Eases Traffic Woes In Arera Colony

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Saturday completed the demolition of Rotary near No 11, to resolve persistent traffic jam plaguing Arera Colony, which had become a major choking point.

The action, initiated on Friday, follows recommendations made in a recently prepared traffic improvement report for the area.

According to officials, to tackle these issues, responsibilities have been divided among Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC), Public Works Department (PWD) and Traffic Police.

BMC began by removing Rotary No 10.5 and is also tasked with clearing encroachments and dividers to allow smoother flow of vehicles. At 1100 Quarter Square, a left turn is to be developed by PWD, while the corporation will handle removal of encroachment.

The report identified key locations where traffic from Hoshangabad Road into the city creates daily gridlock. Areas especially affected include the stretch from Durgadas Rathore Square to 1100 Quarter Square, Banskhedi Environment Complex, and the route from Shaitan Singh Square to 1100 Quarter.

Additionally, road widening and new turns are planned at several points. At Banskhedi T-junction, both road widening and a left-turn lane will be constructed by the PWD.

From Shaitan Singh crossing to Campion School, a series of upgrades are proposed, including a 1.5-metre road widening by reducing the existing footpath, creation of a foot street and developing a left turn near the school. The corporation has also been directed to develop parking facilities at Stop No 10 to ease roadside congestion.
