Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): For residents of Indra Nagar slums, the violent death of Faheem Ansari (35) may have felt like a disturbing but necessary end. But for the police, it remains a grim and puzzling mystery—his killers are still at large, and the motive remains elusive.
Ansari, a scrap dealer and known troublemaker with a record of crimes against women, vanished without notice in late January. On January 29, a woman grazing goats near a pond close to the slums stumbled upon a sack lying suspiciously by the water. Inside was Faheem’s lifeless body, badly battered and stuffed into the bag.
Govindpura police arrived at the scene with a forensic team. Locals quickly identified the body, but beyond that, there were no immediate clues—no witnesses, no suspects, no leads.

A post-mortem revealed he had been assaulted with a heavy object. Investigators believe he was murdered elsewhere and his body dumped near the pond to avoid detection.
Originally from Bhagalpur district in Bihar, Faheem lived with his wife and two children in the slums. Known for his drug addiction and repeated run-ins with the law, he had been arrested in 2020 on rape charges but later released on bail. In 2023, he was caught filming a middle-aged woman bathing, which led to his wife leaving him and returning to Bihar with their children.
Faheem was a regular source of conflict in the area, often getting into scuffles with residents. While police suspect foul play from someone within the neighbourhood, the sheer number of potential suspects has complicated the investigation.
Govindpura police station in-charge Awadhesh Singh Tomar said that some people are on the radar, and investigations are on. But even after three months, the murder case remains unsolved.
