Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): More than 4500 officers, from the rank of constable to additional superintendent of police, in the state are seeking postings at their desired locations. Their applications have reached the police headquarters (PHQ) and are being looked into, the process is slow, though.

Among 4500 transfer applications pending with the PHQ, 3000 are from the personnel of constable rank. Besides, In December, after assuming charge, Director General of Police (DGP) Kailash Makwana instructed police personnel seeking transfers to obtain recommendations from their senior officers. The DGP had barred them from meeting him personally to request transfers.

Since 2024 January to corresponding month this year, the PHQ has received a number of applications requesting transfer, the PHQ has accepted a few and rests are pending. However, still around 4500 applications remain pending. Sources said that most of the applications have reached the PHQ following approval of unit heads, while a few personnel have sent their requests directly. Health issues are the primary reason cited by cops for requesting transfers.

While some applicants have mentioned their own medical conditions, others have cited the health concerns of their immediate family members or dependents. The PHQ is currently reviewing the applications and verifying applicants’ records. A few officers were transferred last year, a majority of applicants are still awaiting PHQ nod. Due to this backlog, the number of pending applications has now reached 4,500.
