Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh):
In the wake of a high-profile rape and blackmailing case that has sparked serious concern over safety of girls, Bhopal police will soon launch a checking drive at dhabas, clubs and restaurants located in outskirts of the city.
Police officials have issued strict instructions after receiving several complaints about illegal and obscene activities being carried out at such establishments. These places are frequently visited by school and college students, who are often provided privacy in exchange for additional charges.
At many of these dhabas and clubs, owners have constructed private cabins and charge hefty hourly rates. In addition, some of these venues host late-night parties where liquor is served illegally, again at extra cost. Reports also suggest that marijuana and other drugs are being supplied to youths on demand.

Officials said that police teams will inspect CCTV footage, visitor records and registers at these establishments to verify whether they are operating as per legal norms.
Significantly, the ongoing investigation into recent rape and blackmailing case has revealed the involvement of such a club situated near a private college where both the accused and victims studied.
The main accused, Farhan, and others frequently visited the club with girls and spent long hours there. Police have recovered videos from mobile phones of Farhan and other accused, showing footage from the club, based on which the owners were questioned.
Police Commissioner Harinarayanchari Mishra confirmed that strict action will be taken against the club involved once investigations are complete. He added that a citywide drive will soon be launched to check similar places on the outskirts, and action will follow if any illegal activities are found.
